TOPEKA, Kan. – #Nicole Baier# scored twice and the Maverick defense turned in another solid performance to help the University of Nebraska at Omaha pick up an important Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association win over the Washburn University Lady Blues Thursday night, 4-0. UNO is now unbeaten in its last seven matches.

With the win the Mavericks climb to 11-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in MIAA play. The Lady Blues dipped to 8-7-0 and 5-6-0 in the MIAA. The win helps UNO keep pace with Truman in the battle for the conference title. The Bulldogs were one game ahead of the Mavs heading into tonight's match.

Baier found the back of the net for her first goal in the 34th minute to put UNO up, 1-0. The goal proved to be the game winner, her fifth of the season. Washburn outshot the Mavs 3-2 in the first half, but couldn't put any of them in.

The UNO offense stepped it up in the second half and Baier netted her second goal of the game in the 54th minute to put the Mavs up 2-0. It is Baier's fifth goal in the last two games. She has 14 goals and 11 assists on the year.

#Lindsey Nealon# scored her second goal of the season in the 73rd minute to increase UNO's lead to 3-0. Nealon used a Baier corner kick to beat WU goalie Ashley Klone.

#Nicole Cunningham# added her second goal of the season as well, in the 87th minute. #Jerica Kuncl# fed a corner kick ball into the box and Cunningham redirected it off her head to find the back of the net. It was Kuncl's first assist of the season.

The Mavs fired 10 shots in the second half and their defense held the Lady Blues to just one shot in the second half. UNO's defense has held opponents under 10 shots for seventh straight game with the four shots given up to WU tonight.

Maverick netminder #Lauren Fox# improved to 9-1-1 and earned her 5.6 shutout of the season. She made one save on the night.

UNO will be back on the field Saturday, Oct. 24 when they head to Maryville, Mo., to face the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats. The match is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start.
