OMAHA, Neb. - Senior forward #Jessica Powers# scored two goals, including the game winner to help the University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team to a 3-0 win over Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Southwest Baptist Thursday afternoon at the UNO Soccer Field.

The Bearcats pressured the Mavericks early, getting the first shot on goal of the match. But UNO got its offense going when Powers received a cross-field pass from #Nicole Baier# and fired it past SBU goalkeeper Johanna Olsson at 6:29 of the first half. The goal was Powers' fifth of the year and first game winner.

With wet field conditions and bitter gusting winds, the two teams battled late into the second half before #Stephanie Sackett lifted the Mavs to a 2-0 lead on her first goal of the season off a Lindsey Nealon# header-pass at 73:46.

Powers added her second goal of the game 57 second later to put UNO up 3-0 and seal its fourth home victory of the season.

With the win, UNO improves to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in MIAA action. SBU drops to 5-3-1 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA.

Junior goalkeeper #Lauren Fox# started in net for the Mavs and improved to 4-1 on the year with the win. She logged 74:43 minutes and made four saves before senior #Elizabeth Odorisio# relieved her of her duties. It is UNO's third shutout in its last four games. Fox now has 2.8 shutouts on the year, while Odorisio has 0.2. 

The UNO defense held the Bearcats to seven shots in the game.

The Mavs will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 3 when they host the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
