OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team led number 10 Washburn for much of the game, but a late surge gave the Lady Blues a hard-fought 64-62 win at Sapp Fieldhouse. The loss was the third straight for the Mavericks who fell to 7-9 on the season and 4-7 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Cayla Hargrove led the Mavericks with 18 points while Amanda Brodsack# had 16 points and 8 rebounds.
The Mavericks led from the outset and were up by 7 points when Brodsack hit a three with 12:21 to go in the first half.
The Lady Blues would go on a 10-4 run to close the gap to one, finishing it off with a jumper by Stenecia Graham.
UNO put on a late push to close the half, sandwiching threes from Hargrove and Brodsack around a jumper from Karla Tailele to lead 33-25 at the break.
The Mavericks maintained the lead through the early part of the second half, but the game turned with less than six minutes to go. Two free throws by Dayna Rodriguez put the Lady Blues in the lead for the first time, 54-53. The Mavs then turned the ball over twice inside 40 seconds giving Washburn two easy layups and a 58-53 lead.

Kamillia Brown# got the Mavericks to within 1 at 61-60 with 51 seconds remaining.
UNO had one last chance after Jessica Mainz hit one of two free throws to make it 64-62 but on the inbounds play with time running down, the Mavericks lost the ball as time expired.
Janice Bright led Washburn and all scorers with 25 points while Mainz added 11.
The Mavericks continue their three-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 28 when they host the Fort Hays State Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
