OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting team from Missouri Southern on Saturday night, losing 72-40 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Lions shot better than 50 percent from three-point range in the second half to turn the game into a rout.
The Mavericks had just one lead in the first half. It came on a layup by #Jill Wolf# with 12:44 remaining that made it 12-11. From there, Missouri Southern went on a 13-2 run, finished off by a three-pointer from Danielle DeVader to make it 27-14. The Mavs could get no closer than 9 and trailed 30-21 at the half.
In the second half, the Lions methodically built their lead, keyed by DeVader who made 4 of her threes in the stanza. She led all players with 18 points on 6 three-pointers.
UNO, on the other hand, was ice cold from the floor. The Mavs had just 5 points with 6 minutes played in the half and would shoot less than 31 percent from the floor and only 25 percent from three-point range. They were just 5-for-16 from the free throw line for the game.
No Maverick finished in double figures. #Ashley Nelson had a team-high 9 points while Amanda Brodsack# and Wolf had 8 each. In addition to DeVader, Myosha Barnes had 12 and India Wood had 11.
The Mavericks will visit the Gorillas of Pittsburg State University on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
