WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The UNO women's basketball team put on a late surge but fell short in a come-from-behind bid, losing to the Jennies of the University of Central Missouri 66-62 on Saturday afternoon.  The loss drops the Mavericks to 6-6 and 3-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Junior #Alyssa Green# led UNO with 17 points, but she fouled out with 7:24 remaining in the game, keeping the Mavericks' top scorer off the floor when the game was still in question.

UNO led 14-13 following a three-pointer by Green with 12:20 remaining in the first half.  Central's Meagan Waggoner followed with a three-pointer of her own, igniting a 14-2 run that would put the Jennies up by 11, 27-16, with 9 minutes to go in the half.

The Mavericks got as close as 4 points before the end of the half when Green converted a layup with 1:27 to go but settled for a 42-35 defecit at halftime.

In the second half, the Jennies bumped their lead as high as 13 points with 10 minutes remaining, but the Mavericks battled back thanks in part to great defense.  Central went without a made shot of any kind for more than seven and a half minutes.  

At the same time, the Mavericks were closing the gap, keyed by two layups from #Amanda Brodsack#.  When #Cayla Hargrove# hit the second of two free throws with 2:24 to play, the Mavericks trailed just 59-58.  

Central Missouri's Katy Davenport answered with a three-pointer just 25 seconds later, and UNO could get no closer than 2 points the rest of the way.

Hargrove and #Kamillia Brown# each had 12 points for the Mavericks.  Brodsack had 8 points and led the team with 8 rebounds.  Waggoner had 13 points to lead Central Missouri which had four players in double figures.

The Mavericks will play two home games next week, beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 14 when they host Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
