OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team used two goals in a span of 24 seconds to knock off the fourth-ranked Bulldogs of Truman State 2-0 in MIAA action Saturday afternoon at the UNO Soccer Field.
Senior #Casey Bigsby scored her third goal of the season when she took a cross pass from junior Mykala Hanson# and headed a ball on goal that beat Truman State goalkeeper Denise Childress in the left corner at 54:35.
The Mavericks added another goal only 24 seconds later when Hanson used a give-and-go from freshman Beccca Swanson and unloaded a shot that got past Childress.
In goal, UNO got a strong effort from sophomore #Lauren Fox# who recorded her third shutout on the year and tied a season-high with five saves.
A strong wind advantage was a key reason for the Maverick's 12-5 advantage in shots in the second half. UNO was able to control the ball most of the second-half putting constant pressure on the Bulldog defense. Overall, UNO out-shot the Bulldogs 16-9.
The Maverick depth became a factor in the second half as they were able to continuously bring in fresh legs off the bench, particularly in the second half. UNO used a total of 22 substitutes compared to only 10 for Truman State.
UNO will begin a four-game road trip next week when they face a pair of MIAA foes in Missouri. The Mavericks will play at Southwest Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. and Northwest Missouri State at noon on Saturday, Oct. 4.
