Junior sprinter
Pinar Saka won two events and
Molly Belling recorded a second and third-place finish Saturday to lead the Mavericks to fourth place in the North Central Conference indoor track and field meet. South Dakota won the team title with 192 points to UNO's 110.
Saka, who already owns the Division II-leading times in the 400 and 200-meter races, captured both Saturday afternoon. She edged Brittany Henderson of Minnesota State at the tape in the 200 with a time of 24.54 seconds to Henderson's 24.58. Belling finished third,
Anja Puc fifth and
Kayla Koepke eighth in the race.
Saka also won the 400 with a time of 55.74 seconds, with Puc second and Koepke fourth.
Belling, besides her third in the 200, was second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.75 seconds behind Henderson, who was clocked in 7.58. Shana Brown of UNO was eighth.
The other second-place finish by the Mavs came in the final event when the 4x400 relay squad of Belling, Saka, Puc and Koepke was edged by South Dakota. The Coyotes won in a time of 3:49.49 to UNO's 3:49.91.
Other Mavs who placed Saturday included
Lisa Tesarek, who was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.82;
Kaylen Harris, fourth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:32.64 and
Jolene Smith, seventh in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:20.32.
