LINCOLN, Neb. -- University of Nebraska at Omaha junior
Pinar Saka was edged twice by Alabama sprinters in the 400 and 200 meter races in the adidas Classic at the Devaney Indoor Track Center.
Saka ran a 53.94 in the 400-meter event, losing at the tape to Alabama's Trish Bartholomew's 53.87 seconds. Saka finished ahead of defending national champion Davita Prendetgast, clocked in 54.20, who was running unattached.
In the 200-meter dash, Alabama's Chelsea Taylor posted a 24.23 to Saka's 24.40 for the win.
The Mavericks had three runners in the top 11 in the 400. Freshman
Anja Puc was sixth with a time of 55.96 and freshman
Kayla Koepke was 11th at 58.35.
Puc finished 17th in the 200 with a time of 25.63 seconds and Koepke was 37th with a time of 26.67.
In other running events,
Lisa Tesarek was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27 and
Jolene Smith was 17th in the 600-yard run with a mark of 1:32.35.
In field events,
Ashley Yates was 16th in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet, 8 1/2 inches.
