OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO women's basketball team turned in a high-octane performance on Friday night, beating Bemidji State 109-76 at Sapp Fieldhouse. Eleven of 12 players scored for the Mavericks who improved their overall record to 4-4 on the season.
#Alyssa Green# led the way for the Mavericks with 23 points, tying a career high. She had 17 in a red-hot second half. #Cayla Hargrove# had 17.
The game stayed close through the first 5 minutes as the two non-conference opponents assayed the other. The Mavericks led by 7 points early following a layup by #Kamillia Brown#, but the Beavers whittled away at the lead, closing to within one on a layup by Katie Jamnik. She had 17 on the night for Bemidji State.
UNO gradually asserted itself as the half wore on. Hargrove led the charge off the bench with 10 points including a pair of three-pointers. The Mavericks led 53-32 at the break.
Green sparked the Mavericks out of the gate in the second half, scoring the first 8 points as UNO stretched its lead to 29 points. She finished the night shooting 5-for-6 from three-point range, a new career high. As a team, the Mavericks shot 9-for-13 from beyond the arc in the second half.
#LaToya Wright chipped in 14 while Ellen Majewski# had 10 for UNO. Amanda Brodsack led the Mavericks with 8 rebounds. Heidi Matzke led the Beavers with 22 points while Jamnick added 17.
The 109 total points were the most for the Mavericks since beating Chaminade 108-49 on Dec. 31, 2007.
UNO will now enjoy the Christmas break. The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31 when they visit Emporia State for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
