OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team lost to former North Central Conference neighbor St. Cloud State 67-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Sapp Fieldhouse.  St. Cloud turned back a late second half push by the Mavericks to earn their second win in as many games in an abbreviated Thanksgiving tournament at UNO.

Defense ruled the day.  The two teams combined for just 48 points in the first half as the Huskies built a 27-21 lead.  Talisha Barlow led the charge with 9 points while Anna Cashman had back-to-back 3-pointers late in the half.  #Amanda Brodsack# led the Mavericks in the first half with 6 points.  St. Cloud held UNO to just 29 percent shooting.

The Mavericks came out slowly to start the second half, earning just 5 points in the first five minutes.  St. Cloud eventually built its lead to 12 points but down the stretch, the Mavericks made a run.  Keyed by 7 points from #Alyssa Green#, UNO closed to within 6.  But the Huskies turned up the defensive pressure again and were able to rebuild their lead.  The Mavs were forced to foul late, and St. Cloud scored its final 14 points at the free throw line.

For the game, #LaToya Wright# led the Mavericks with 12 points while Green had 9. Brodsack paced the team with 9 rebounds.  Barlow and Cashman each had 17 points to lead the Huskies while Katie Tacheny had 13.

The loss drops the Mavericks to 1-2 on the season.  They begin play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Conference on Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they visit Washburn for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
