UNO Plays Host to St. Cloud State Saturday

Complete Release

This Week
The UNO women's basketball team is back home to host the UNO Thanksgiving Classic.  Due to some last minute participant changes, the Mavericks will play just one game in the tournament.  They'll host former North Central Conference rival St. Cloud State on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m.

The Records
The Mavericks are 1-1 this season following an 79-51 win over Dana College on Nov. 19.  The Huskies are 3-0 heading into this week's action.  They're coming off a 103-62 win over Dakota State in the Minnesota State Mankato tournament last weekend.  St. Cloud will play Northwest Missouri State in the opening round of the UNO Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m.

The Coaches
Patty Patton Shearer is in her fifth season at Nebraska-Omaha looking to continue the program's rapid improvement since her arrival. She is 68-50 all time at UNO.  Last year, the Mavericks started 14-1 (the best start in school history) and recorded their third-straight winning season at 17-12.  A native of Marana, Ariz., Patton Shearer is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College.  Lori Fish begins her first season as head coach at St. Cloud after four years at Minnestoa State Mankato.  Fish is 65-53 all-time as a head coach.  She is a 1991 graduate of South Dakota State.

Last Game
The Mavericks earned their first win of the season last week, beating Dana College 79-51 on Nov. 19.  Senior #LaToya Wright# led the way for the Mavs with 13 points.  #Amanda Brodsack had 11 while Alyssa Green# had 9 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Series
The Mavericks and the Huskies are long-time combatants from their days in the old NCC.  The Huskies hold the 30-20 edge in the all-time series.  Last year, the two teams split a pair of games with the home team winning each.  The Mavericks won 81-77 at Sapp Fieldhouse on Feb. 2 before the Huskies prevailed 70-63 Halenbeck Hall on Feb. 14.

Coming Up
The Mavericks begin MIAA play next week when they travel to Washburn on Dec. 3 and Fort Hays State on Dec. 5 for two 5:30 p.m. tip-offs.
