University of Nebraska at Omaha head track coach Steve Smith announced today that four high school standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to attend school and compete for the Mavericks in 2007-08.

The list includes one student-athlete each from Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Minnesota.

Jolene Smith
Howard Lake, Minn., Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted HS
A three-sport standout, she placed third in the state 800-meter race in 2006 and has earned all-conference honors 14 times while setting school records in the 400 and 800-meter races and the high jump...she also competed in cross country and basketball.
Personal: Parents are David and Julie Smith...born Oct. 14, 1988...plans to major in early childhood education.

Janna Brons
Northglenn, Colo., Northglenn HS
Competed in cross country, swimming and track...was part of the 3200-meter relay team that set a school record...member of the honor roll.
Personal: Parents are Dale and Linda Brons...born April 19, 1989,,,plans to major in pre-nursing studies.

Kayla Koepke
Hadar, Neb., Pierce HS
Lettered in volleyball and basketball in addition to track...set school records in the 200 and 400...won the Class B 400 as a junior, helping Pierce to the team title...honorable mention all-conference in volleyball and all-state honorable mention in basketball...academic all-state in all three sports.
Personal: Parents are Darin and Kelli Koepke...born May 1, 1989 in Norfolk, Neb....undecided on her major.

Blair Schmidt
Centerville, Iowa, Centerville HS
Lettered in cross country, basketball, track and soccer...set school long jump record...earned all-conference honors three times in cross country...was seventh in state Class 3A state meet in long jump...honorable mention all-state in basketball...was all-conference, all-district and all-state in track.
Personal: Parents are Jon and Robin Schmidt...born April 14, 1989, in Hampton, Iowa...plans to major in studio art/graphic arts design.
