OMAHA, Neb. -- University of Nebraska-Omaha shortstop
Evan Porter hit three home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day, leading the Mavericks to a convincing sweep of a North Central Conference doubleheader with St. Cloud State, 15-2 and 9-0, Monday afternoon at Boys Town.
UNO (16-14, 3-1 NCC) took a quick 5-0 lead in the first game. Porter opened things up with an RBI double in the first, then the Mavs scored four in the second inning, with Porter knocking one in with a single.
Chris Weimer followed with a two-run homer, his fifth of the season. Porter's first home run of the day, a solo shot in the fourth, made it 6-1. His second of the game - a grand slam - highlighted a nine-run sixth inning that put the game way out of reach.
Josh Lundin (3-3) allowed one run on three hits in five innings to earn the win.
Bryan Hauck (3-1) took the mound for the Mavs in the second game, earning the win by throwing five shutout innings, protecting a slim 1-0 lead. UNO scored five in the fifth, with Matt Eikmeier leading off with his second home run of the season. Porter tacked on two more with his third home run of the day, his team-leading sixth of the year. Porter notched his 10th RBI of the day in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
UNO takes a break from conference play, visiting Winona State for two games Thursday. It's back to NCC action after that, when the Mavs visit Minnesota Duluth for four games Saturday and Sunday.
