The Maverick track team will move on to the NCAA Division II Indoor track and field championships in Boston this weekend. The Mavericks will compete in seven events in the March 9-10 event at the Reggie Lewis Center.
UNO in the NCAA
The Mavericks were eighth last year and fifth in 2005, marking their best two finishes in the NCAA II indoor national meet. The Mavericks are fresh off the heels of capturing the North Central Conference title, their first since 1981.

The Coach
Steve Smith took over as the interim head coach for the cross country and track program at UNO Aug. 28 after 19-year coach Tim Hendricks retired. Smith is a 1981 graduate of Pittsburg State and began his coaching career at that school. He has also served as a collegiate assistant at Wichita State and Nebraska. He joined the UNO program as an assistant under Hendricks in January, 2006. Smith was named the NCC's women's indoor coach of the year.
On Deck
The Mavericks will have nearly a month off before opening their outdoor season April 7 in the Bearcat Invitational in Maryville, Mo.
