Former All-American Maurtice Ivy has joined the staff of head women's basketball coach Patty Patton Shearer as a part-time assistant.
"Maurtice is an excellent addition to our staff," Patton Shearer said. "She has strong ties to the community and obviously has a great basketball background and the knowledge of what it takes to win at the highest level."
Patton Shearer's staff at UNO also includes full-time assistants Jason Flores and Brad Schick.
Ivy, an Omaha native and Omaha Central High School graduate, was the Big Eight Player of the Year for Nebraska in 1988 while leading the team to the conference championship. She was a two-time Kodak second-team All-American for the Cornhuskers and later went on to play profesionally in the Women's Basketball Association for five seasons. She was a two-time MVP in the league. She also led her Hoop It Up 3-on-3 team to four national championships.
Ivy earned her bachelor's degree in communication from Nebraska in 1992. She will be working to complete her master's degree in physical education while serving on the UNO staff.
A 1998 inductee into the Nebraska Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Ivy has worked in community relations and youth development for 12 years. Most recently, she was a family and community service manager for the Community Development Center - Head Start.
