MINNEAPOLIS — Omaha Baseball scored in each of the last four innings Saturday, but the Mavericks weren't able to catch Northwestern in a 9-6 loss at the Gopher Tournament.
Jackson Trout led the Omaha (4-9) offense with three doubles and three runs scored, while
Cardel Dick also had three hits and drove in two runs.
The teams traded runs for much of the game as Northwestern (6-6) scored in each of its last five innings at the plate.
Omaha's only lead came in the top of the fourth when
Chase Diggins' single scored Trout to make it 1-0. Dick delivered an RBI double in the sixth, but Northwestern answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning for a 5-2 lead.
Omaha got back-to-back RBI doubles from Trout and
Sam Beck in the seventh but left the tying run in scoring position.
Northwestern scored two more in the bottom of the seventh. Omaha's final runs came on an RBI single by
Edoardo Cornelli in the eighth and Dick's single in the ninth.
Omaha starter
Tanner Foertsch was tagged with the loss despite a solid outing. Foertsch went 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run and three hits with four strikeouts.
Omaha finishes tournament play against host Minnesota at 6 p.m. CT Sunday.
