OMAHA, Neb. –– Fresh off a sweep of North Dakota State to begin the Summit League slate and the homestand, Omaha Softball rose to second in the week seven D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings. The Mavericks also ranked third in the Softball America Mid-Major Poll.
At 20-7 on the season, Omaha has homered in 15 straight games, won four straight and six of its last seven.
Junior second baseman
Katherine Johnson powered the Maverick offense in the sweep of the Bison with seven RBI in eight recorded at-bats. Johnson went 4-for-8 with a home run and three runs scored, also stealing a base.
Junior southpaw pitcher
Maddia Groff was sharp in the circle, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits to hold Bison batters to a .087 average at the plate. Groff earned a victory (her seventh) and her first save of the season.
