Box Score OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha Baseball dropped a midweek nonconference matchup with crosstown foe Creighton, 8-2, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha on Wednesday night.

The Mavericks (7-11, 3-0 Summit) built an early 2-0 lead before the Bluejays (9-8, 0-0 Big East) broke open a close game with a four-run seventh inning.

The Mavericks opened the scoring against Bluejays starter Evan Stratton in the second on Hayden Lewis's solo homer to center field, his second of the season.

Omaha chased Stratton in the third. With one out, Chase Diggins walked and stole second, scoring on Henry Zipay's RBI single to right to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.

The Bluejays broke through against the Mavericks bullpen in the bottom of the third inning. Joe Washburn beat out a hard grounder to third to bring in one run, and Edoardo Cornelli's throw skipped away from first baseman Jackson Trout, allowing the tying run to score.
Nate McHugh drilled a two-run homer to left off losing pitcher Brayden Curtis (1-1) in the bottom of the fifth, giving Creighton a 4-2 lead.

The Bluejays added four more runs in the seventh to close out the scoring. Brian Gould (2-1) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win.

Lewis, the Summit League's Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week, went 2 for 4, giving him seven RBI over the last five games for Omaha. Zipay extended his team-leading on-base streak to 10 games.

The neighboring universities will play twice more this regular season, March 24 at Charles Schwab Field and April 22 at Omaha.

The Summit League-leading Mavericks entertain Northern Colorado in conference play this weekend with games Friday at 4 p.m. CT, Saturday at 4 p.m. CT and Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. All games at Tal Anderson Field will be streamed live on the Summit League Network.
