SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha Men's Tennis players Bryan Kuntz, Anthony Scheglowski and Liam Spiers swept the Kwik Star Summit League weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday.
Kuntz, a graduate student from Cuiaba, Brazil, was named the Singles Peak Performer of the Week after going 3-0 in the No. 1 flight last weekend on the road. The Mav only lost one set over the weekend with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 win at Southern Miss, a 6-3, 6-4 win at New Orleans and a 6-3, 6-4 win at Nicholls State. This is Kuntz's first time winning the award this season.
Scheglowski, a freshman from Lakeville, Minn., and Spiers, a graduate student from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, won three out of four matches in the No. 2 flight in their first weekend playing as a duo with a 7-6 (3) win at Southern Miss, a 6-4 win at New Orleans and a 6-4 win at Nicholls State. In the Southern Miss match, Spiers and Scheglowski beat a team that was ranked at the end of the fall season. This is their first time winning the award this season and the first award of Scheglowski's collegiate career.
The Mavericks will host cross-town rival Creighton on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m. CT at Miracle Hill Tennis Center before hitting the road to play their first conference match of the season at Oral Roberts on Sunday, March 22.
