OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha Baseball (5-10, 1-0 Summit) posted a 4-2 victory Friday at Tal Anderson Field over the defending Summit League champion North Dakota State Bison (2-15, 0-1 Summit) in the Mavericks' home opener.
North Dakota State struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Omaha answered to even the score at 1-1.
Tyler Bishop reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop, allowing
Chase Diggins to score while
Jackson Trout advanced to second.
The Bison regained the lead, 2-1, in the fourth inning, but
Hayden Lewis responded for the Mavericks with an RBI single to right field, tying the game at 2-2 as
Nick Riggs crossed the plate.
On the mound, right-hander
Maddox Meyer, a Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List honoree by the College Baseball Foundation, worked six innings, striking out five while allowing two runs and one walk before handing the ball to
Cameron Teinert.
Omaha took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning when Trout delivered an RBI single to score
Henry Zipay for a 3-2 advantage. Riggs followed with a triple to right-center field, driving in Trout to extend the Mavericks' lead to 4-2.
The Mavericks return to Tal Anderson Field tomorrow for a doubleheader against NDSU. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m. CT, while game two will begin approximately 35 minutes after. Both games will stream on the Summit League Network.
