Stubblefield scores career-high 22 in MBB setback at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Grant Stubblefield finished with a career-best 22 points, but North Dakota rallied from 13 down at halftime to edge the Omaha Men's Basketball team 76-73 Thursday night in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Omaha (12-13, 5-5) led most of the way and was up 60-59 after a Valentino Simon free throw with 3:12 left. But North Dakota scored on its next three possession for a 65-60 lead and answered each time the Mavericks got close - Omaha was within two on three occasions in the final 35 seconds.

North Dakota (14-12, 8-2), which lost in Omaha last month, hit 8 of 8 free throws in the last minute to seal the win.

Stubblefield gave Omaha a 42-29 lead at halftime when he made a layup in the closing seconds of the half.

But North Dakota heated up after the break, starting the second half on a 23-10 run to tie it 52-52 with 9:30 left.

Omaha continued to keep a narrow lead in the ensuing minutes, with its last lead coming on Simon's free throw.

North Dakota stretched the margin to 74-73 before in the final five seconds Lance Waddles made a layup and Tony Osburn hit a 3-pointer after a turnover.

But North Dakota made two free throws with one second left to close out the win.

Stubblefield continued to be productive offensively as he finished with 22 points and five rebounds before fouling out.

Ja'Sean Glover added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Waddles also was in double figures with 11 points. Paul Djobet, who had double-doubles in the previous three games, finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

Omaha shot just 32 percent from the field goal in the second half, while North Dakota shot 51 percent.

Omaha will stay on the road and face Summit leader North Dakota State at 1 p.m. CT Saturday. The Bison lost their first Summit game Thursday to Denver.
