WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Omaha Baseball for a 10-3 victory Friday afternoon.
Jackson Trout and
Chase Diggins each had three hits to lead the offense for Omaha, which drops to 3-5.
Omaha tied it 1-1 in the top of the second when
Cardel Dick lined a single past the shortstop to score Trout, who started the inning with a single.
Wichita State stretched its lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a Max Kaufer home run before Omaha put together a rally in the fifth.
Edoardo Cornelli made it 3-2 with a run-scoring double. Omaha, though, stranded runners at the corners before Wichita State took control as the first five Shockers reached safely and came around to score in the bottom of the fifth.
Omaha scored its final run in the ninth as Dick tripled and scored on a groundout by
Tyler Bishop.
Omaha and Wichita State will wrap up their series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
