VERMILLION, S.D. - Omaha Women's Basketball kept it close all night, but fell to South Dakota, 69-66, on the road on Thursday night.
The Mavericks (4-25, 2-12 Summit League) played one of their best games of the season against the Coyotes (21-6, 11-2), who currently sit second in the Summit League standings.
Omaha shot 41.1% from the field, 34.6% from the arc and 100% from the free throw line. The Mavs outrebounded the Coyotes with 33 to South Dakota's 25.
When Omaha and South Dakota played for the first time this season (Jan. 22), the Mavs shot 22.2% from the field, 13.3% from the 3-point line and 81.3% from the free throw line.
Graduate
Sarai Estupiñan (Cedar Park, Texas) tallied 24 points against the Coyotes. It was her second time scoring 24 points in the past three games.
Freshman
Regan Juenemann (Crosby, Minn.) tallied 16 points with seven rebounds while junior
Ali Stephens (Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded 15 points with eight rebounds.
As a team, the Mavs had seven blocks to South Dakota's zero. Estupiñan finished the game with three.
Omaha has two more games left in the regular season. The Mavericks will face Oral Roberts on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. CT and Denver on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. CT. Both games will be played at Baxter Arena. Tickets are available at
