DEKALB, Ill. - Omaha Men's Tennis' comeback fell short at Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon.  

The Mavericks (2-6) went down 3-0 early in the match after losses in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and singles matches against NIU (5-1).  

A win in the No. 5 singles match put the Mavs back in the game. Freshman Maddox Lundell (Minnetonka, Minn.) took the first set 6-4 before sweeping Iker Dellien in the second set to win 6-0. Lundell moves to 4-3 in dual matches this season with a 2-1 mark in the No. 5 flight.  

Junior Christian Trevey (Parker, Colo.) secured Omaha's other team point with a win in the No. 3 flight. Trevey fell 6-3 to NIU's Lorenzo Leti Messina in the first set, then took the second set by the same margin. The match went to a full third set which resulted in a tiebreak. Trevey won the tie break 7-2 to secure the match.  

The Mavericks will host Saint Louis on Friday, Feb. 20 at 12 p.m. CT at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
