BROOKINGS, S.D. – Omaha Women's Basketball fell to South Dakota State, 85-41, on the road on Wednesday night.
The Mavericks (2-21, 0-8 Summit League) came out strong and fast against the Jackrabbits (17-5, 7-1) and ended the first quarter tied at 14, but South Dakota State outscored the Mavs for the rest of the game. The Jacks held Omaha to less than 10 points scored in the second and fourth quarters.
Freshman
Regan Juenemann (Crosby, Minn.) led the way in scoring with 10 points in 26 minutes. She was the only Mav to score in the double digits.
Only five players from Omaha got on the scoreboard. Freshmen
Leekaya Burke Perryman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Elsa Vedral (Omaha, Neb.) recorded eight and nine points, respectively. Graduate
Sarai Estupiñan (Cedar Park, Texas) tallied nine and junior
Ali Stephens (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had six.
The Omaha freshmen led the way defensively.
Avril Smith (Omaha, Neb.) tallied six rebounds while Juenemann had five. Vedral recorded three steals for a career-high.
The Mavericks will end the month with a rematch against Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 31, exactly one month after they met the first time around when the Roos won by two points. Saturday's game will be a pink out. Tickets are available at
