4 in double figures as MBB picks up second straight road win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Paul Djobet recorded his second career double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds in leading the Omaha Men's Basketball team to a 77-60 win over Kansas City on Saturday night.

Djobet, who finished two points off his career high, scored 15 in the first half as Omaha led for nearly 37 minutes on the night.

Djobet was one of four Mavericks in double figures.

Tony Osburn made four 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Osburn surpassed 200 career threes with the Mavericks.

Grant Stubblefield added 12 points and four assists, while center Christian Richardson made a pair of field goals in the last three minutes to secure the win as he finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Omaha (10-12, 3-4), which lost 73-66 to Kansas City earlier this month at Baxter Arena, improved to 2-1 in league road games.

Omaha stretched its lead early on as it was up 19-12 at the 11:15 mark on back-to-back 3-pointers from Lance Waddles and Djobet.

And when Osburn drained a 3 with six minutes left, Omaha had its biggest lead of the night at 36-24. At that point, Omaha as a team was 6 of 11 on 3-pointers.

Earlier this week in a home loss to South Dakota, Omaha went 1 of 19 on 3-pointers. The Mavericks made eight triples Saturday.

The Mavericks held a 44-34 advantage at halftime, then Omaha went on an 8-0 run, capped by a Brock Scholl layup, to extend the lead to 58-41 with 14 minutes left.

But then the Mavericks went nearly six minutes without a point as Kansas City (4-17, 1-6) pulled within 58-51.

But that would be as close as the Roos got as Richardson layup made it 72-58 with 1:40 left.

Omaha controlled the boards with a 44-29 advantage. That included 27-15 in the second half.

Omaha returns home Wednesday night at 7 p.m. CT to play South Dakota State.
