Men's Basketball hosts South Dakota, closes series with Kansas City

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Basketball (9-11, 2-3 Summit) welcomes South Dakota (10-10, 2-3 Summit) to Baxter Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. CT in the first of two regular-season meetings between the Mavericks an Coyotes. Wednesday's game will stream on the Summit League Network an air on 1290 KOIL in Omaha or on the Varsity Network with Gary Sharp on the call.

Paul Djobet scored 20 of his career-high 25 points in the first half in leading Omaha Men's Basketball to their first Summit League road win this season, 73-62 Saturday night at Oral Roberts. The win improves Omaha, who led nearly the entire way, to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in league play. Djobet nearly reached his career high of 22 points by halftime when he had 20 of his team's 36 points. He had scored 22 points on three occasions over the last month. Lance Waddles scored all of his 12 points in the final 15 minutes. Behind Djobet, Omaha only trailed once in the first half.

Eight former Mavericks are currently playing professionally overseas. Of note from the past week, Frankie Fidler showcased an impressive performance for Rigas Zelli against Ventspils in a five-point loss, posting 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes of play. Through 18 games, Fidler is the third-best scorer in the league, averaging 20.6 points per game.

All-time Omaha is 51-55 with South Dakota. Omaha went 2-1 against the Coyotes last season, including a win in the Summit League semifinal to secure the Mavericks' first-ever NCAA tournament berth.

South Dakota is 15th in the nation in made free throws per game, averaging 19.7.

Omaha closes out week three of league play at Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. CT on the Summit League Network. The Roos defeated Omaha 73-66 at Baxter Arena on Jan. 3.
