Men’s Tennis falls to Nebraska in doubleheader

LINCOLN, Neb. – Omaha Men's Tennis dropped both matches of a doubleheader at Nebraska by a score of 7-0 on Saturday.

The Mavericks (0-2) opened the day with a win at No. 1 doubles. Graduate Bryan Kuntz (Cuiaba, Brazil) and redshirt sophomore Pavan Uppu (Pickerington, Ohio) defeated Nebraska's Colsen Wells and Matt Shearer 6-4. It would be the Mavs only match win of the day.

Kuntz would go on to push his second singles match of the day to the limit with a tiebreak that went into extra points. The graduate from Brazil faced Nikolay Sysoev from Nebraska to close out the day at the No. 1 singles spot. After falling 7-5 in the first set, Kuntz fought back to bring the second set to a 6-6 tie. He ultimately fell 11-9 in the seven-point tiebreaker.

Fellow graduate Liam Spiers (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) played his own marathon match in singles in the first match of the day. Spiers faced Sysoev in the No. 2 spot. The Husker took the first set 6-2, but Spiers battled and took the second 6-4 in his first singles match as a Maverick. The deciding set went Sysoev's way with a score of 10-7.

Freshman Maddox Lundell (Minetonka, Minn.) pushed his first spring tennis match to three sets after taking the first set 6-4 over Nebraska's Joan Torres.

The Mavericks are at home on Saturday, Jan. 24 to welcome Wichita State to Miracle Hills Tennis Center at noon.
