OXFORD, Ohio - Omaha Hockey scored back-to-back goals but it couldn't overcome an early deficit as Miami (Ohio) won 6-2 Saturday night to finish the two-game series.
Omaha (8-16, 4-10 NCHC) pulled within 4-2 early in the third period as
Myles Hilman had a hand in both goals, but that's as close as Mavericks got.
After Miami (14-8-2) scored three third-period goals in Friday's 3-0 win, the RedHawks put pressure on the Mavericks from the start Saturday.
Omaha goalie
Dawson Cowan made six saves in the game's first five minutes. But Miami broke through for a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the game as it scored both goals in a 90-second span.
Miami added another power-play goal with 2:30 left in the period. Miami held a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period.
Miami's David Deputy scored his third goal of the night with 11:30 left in the second period for a 4-0 lead. Omaha made a push after that.
Omaha, which was shut out for the first time this season on Friday, scored midway through the second period when Hilman's pass to the front of the net was knocked in by
Sean Tschigerl.
Omaha made it 4-2 less than two minutes into the third period on Hilman's goal. But Miami scored 18 seconds later to regain momentum.
Miami finished with a 40-21 advantage in shots on goal. Cowan had 34 saves on the night.
Omaha returns home to face Colorado College beginning Friday. The Mavericks swept a series at Colorado College in the fall.
