Birch’s goal lifts Women’s Soccer to road victory against defending Summit League champions

FARGO, N.D. – Omaha Women's Soccer (4-4-3, 1-0-0 Summit) opened Summit League play with a statement road victory Thursday evening, besting 2024 regular-season champion North Dakota State 1-0 at Dacotah Field.

The Mavericks generated the first momentum in the 18th minute when sophomore forward Charley Kort (Lincoln, Neb.) nearly broke through, but fired just over the crossbar.

In the 38th minute, NDSU threatened before Maverick senior goalkeeper Charlotte Huggard (Plymouth, Mich.) came up with a diving save to preserve the scoreless tally heading into halftime.

Omaha outshot the Bison 6-5 in the opening half, holding a 2-1 lead in shots-on-goal.

In the 53rd minute, senior defender Lindsey Birch (Rochester, Minn.) scored her first goal of the 2025 campaign to put Omaha on the scoreboard and break the scoreless tally. Freshman defender Presley Douglass (Elkhorn, Neb.) and Kort were credited with assists.

Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Huggard (Plymouth, Mich.) appeared in her seventh match of the season, recording four saves.

Kort, junior defender Emma Hampton and seniors Lauren Schmidt and Maggie Gundersen lead Omaha with 11 consecutive starts this season after tonight's victory.

Through 11 fixtures in 2025, 12 different Mavericks have scored.

The Mavericks continue Summit League play in Grand Forks, N.D. when Omaha takes on North Dakota Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. CT live on the Summit League Network.
