OMAHA, Neb. (Aug. 15, 2025) - Omaha women's soccer head coach
Tim Walters announced Friday the addition of
Andrei Gotsmanov to the Mavericks' coaching staff.
Gotsmanov joins Omaha after an illustrious playing career that included five seasons at Creighton during the Bluejays' tenure in the Missouri Valley Conference. Gotsmanov was the 2008 MVC Player of the Year and MVC Tournament Most Valuable Player. His tenure at CU concluded as a first-team selection on the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men's Division I All-America Team and was a semifinalist for the prestigious Hermann Trophy.
Drafted 24th overall by the New England Revolution in the 2009 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, the Belarusian played professionally in Sweden, Nebraska and Minnesota. Gotsmanov ended his professional career with then-new MLS side Minnesota United FC, making 50 combined appearances for the Loons in the North American Soccer League (NASL) and MLS eras.
After retiring, Gotsmanov founded Joy Omaha, a provider of individual and and small group soccer training year-round.
"I'm excited to have Andrei join our staff here in Omaha," said Walters, now in his ninth season leading Omaha. "Andrei is a very thoughtful and intelligent coach who will bring a different perspective to our staff. Having worked with our team in a volunteer capacity this past spring, we were able to see how well he worked with the players on an individual basis and I'm thrilled to have him here in a larger capacity going forward."
Gotsmanov comes from a soccer-playing family. His father, former professional footballer Sergey Gotsmanov, was a four-time Belarusian Footballer of the Year and played for the Soviet Union at the 1988 UEFA European Football Championship. In 1996, the family moved to the U.S. as the elder Gotsmanov joined the Minnesota Thunder. Andrei has an older brother, Sasha, who played for MLS side Colorado Rapids and the former Minnesota Thunder organization.
