SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha softball alumna
Maggie O'Brien was named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team, it was announced Tuesday. The 2025 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year has been named to the team in three straight seasons.
O'Brien graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Business Administration and Master of Business Administration in 2025. The mainstay at shortstop finished her time at the University of Nebraska at Omaha with an undergraduate GPA of 4.0 and a graduate GPA of 3.968.

Mike Heard's tenure as head coach of the Mavericks, Omaha student-athletes have combined to earn nine spots on the Summit League Academic All-League Team.
A First Team All-Summit League honoree as a senior, O'Brien started every game of her collegiate career, boasting a career .310 batting average, .381 on-base percentage and .387 slugging percentage. With 40 extra-base hits, O'Brien totaled 247 bases in 207 starts (all at shortstop).
Defensively, O'Brien finished her career with a .934 fielding percentage with 257 putouts and 323 assists. Helping turn 32 double plays, O'Brien made 621 catches as a Maverick.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's seven institutions that carry softball and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FAR). The team is made up of the 10 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
