OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha men's basketball head coach
Chris Crutchfield announced Monday the appointment of
JR Reynolds as an assistant coach.
Reynolds comes to the Mavericks from Queens (NCAA Division I - ASUN) in Charlotte, N.C. where he served as an assistant coach, leading the Royals' offense.
"We are so excited to add JR to our staff. We were looking for fit more than anything else," said Crutchfield, the 2024-25 Summit League Coach of the Year. "We have a close knit-family atmosphere here and now we've added to it. JR played at a high level and professional for 10-plus years. His experience will definitely help keep us on the right track."
The 2003 Virginia Mr. Basketball honoree, Reynolds played four seasons at Virginia (NCAA Division I - ACC) where he earned Third Team All-ACC in 2006 and Second Team All-ACC in 2007. As a senior, the Cavaliers won the Atlantic Coast Conference Regular Season Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The 2006-07 Virginia men's basketball team finished the season ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll.
A point guard at UVA, Reynolds played professionally from 2007-20, winning championships in France and Montenegro. Reynolds also played in Poland, Israel and Turkey during his professional career.

"Coach Crutchfield brings over two decades of experience at the highest levels of college basketball and his track record of developing elite talent and building winning programs speaks volumes. I'm looking forward to bringing energy and value both on and off the court and building on the strong foundation and momentum the team created this past season."
At Queens, where he began as Director of Basketball Operations, the Royals averaged 76.7 p.p.g., good for a top 100 mark in Division I. Queens' 15.97 a.p.g. ranked second in the league and among the top 45 in the nation. The Royals' bench points (31.31 p.p.g.) ranked in the nation's top 10.
Reynolds also coached in the NBA G League with the Maine Celtics (2022-23) and served as the head coach of the DME Academy Post-Graduate Team in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Roanoke, Va. native graduated from UVA with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (2007).
