4X400 Relay Team Takes Home First Place at the Kip Janvrin Invitational

Apr 26, 2025

Indianola, Iowa - The Mavericks took on the Kip Janvrin Invitational this weekend led by a first-place victory from the 4x400-meter relay team of Macy Persinger, Avyn Urbanski, Ashley Ostrand, and Ava Robinson.

"On Thursday, having two heat wins in (Izzy) Apel & (Carrington) Hessen was great to see and then in addition, two big races from Emma Hain and Meredith Richter who now sits just outside of our top ten list in school history in the 1500 meters," said head coach Cliff Cisar.

In the 1500 meters, Meredith Richter ran a personal best of 4:42.30 to place eighth, while Maya Bergstrom also set a personal record with a time of 4:48.19 to finish sixteenth.

In the 5000 meters, Izzy Apel won Heat 1 with a personal best time of 19:39.89, while Carrington Hessen captured the Heat 2 victory with a PR of 18:54.21.

Sydney Beaudin also achieved an outdoor personal best of 19:01.77 in the 5000 meters, and Emma Hain ran a personal best of 18:22.58.

"On Friday in chilly conditions Ava Robinson and Jocelynn (Skoda) stood out in their 400 meters and Skoda had a really great 200 meters to set her outdoor best," said Cisar. "To cap off the day and meet we ran to a first-place finish in the 4x400m with two sprinters (Avyn Urbanski & Ashley Ostrand) who stepped up and wanted to be on the relay early in the week. They both ran great legs of 60 flat which is really impressive given the last time either have covered that distance was over two years ago."

On Friday, Jade Jackson ran a time of 15.00 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to finish fifth, while Lilly Smith clocked 15.51 seconds to place ninth.

The 4x100-meter relay team, made up of Ashley Ostrand, Avyn Urbanski, Ava Robinson, and Macy Barnard, finished fourth with a time of 47.65 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Jocelynn Skoda ran a personal best of 25.95 seconds to place ninth, and Macy Persinger followed closely behind, finishing tenth with a time of 25.97 seconds.

Three Mavericks finished in the top 10 in the 400 meters.

Ava Robinson took third place with a time of 58.03 seconds. Jocelynn Skoda finished sixth, running 58.81 seconds, and Meredith Richter placed seventh with a time of 1:00.02.

Maya Bergstrom ran a personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.98.

The Mavericks closed out the meet in style by winning the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Macy Persinger, Avyn Urbanski, Ashley Ostrand, and Ava Robinson ran a time of 4:00.65 to secure first place.

"A fun weekend of competing that threw several different challenges our athletes' way," said Cisar. "A good majority were able to battle through the adversities and come out with great performances that will set us up nicely headed into the final month of the season."

The Omaha track and field team will return to action on May 2 for the USD Tune Up in Vermillion, South Dakota.
