Des Moines, Iowa — Emma Klein led the Omaha track and field team at the Jim Duncan Invitational with a first-place finish and a personal record in the triple jump.
"A day at Drake always has unknowns with environmental impacts. But today was about as nice as it could have been, and our ladies took advantage of it," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "As we reach the midpoint of the year, we set our sights on taking full advantage of practice opportunities, fine-tuning our training, and preparing our minds and bodies for championship racing."
Klein won the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 11.81 meters (38 feet, 9 inches).
In the long jump, two Mavericks placed in the top ten. Hannah Dunning finished eighth with a distance of 5.16 meters (16 feet, 11.25 inches), and Shay Sinnard placed ninth with a mark of 5.08 meters (16 feet, 8 inches).
"The jumpers all had great mindsets today in being able to work through their attempts," said assistant coach Thomas Stopak. "The meet is not determined after the first attempt. As long as we have one more jump, we can keep improving."
Grace Mustard also set a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.89 seconds.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Emma Klein, Avyn Urbanski, Regan Barnard, and Tania Gleason placed third overall with a season-best time of 47.38 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Macy Persinger finished 11th with a season-best time of 25.89 seconds, and Jocelynn Skoda was close behind in 12th with a personal-record time of 25.98 seconds.
Meredith Richter and Lily Schwartz both set personal records in the 800 meters. Richter placed sixth with a time of 2:14.71, and Schwartz finished 12th in 2:17.01.
In the 1500 meters, Emma Hain and Izzy Apel also recorded personal records. Hain finished in 5:02.45, while Apel crossed the line in 5:09.29.
"Big trust in all our racers today," said assistant coach Saskia Pingpank. "Our 800m and 1500m crew executed their races beautifully—dug deep when it got tough and made smart decisions all the way through. Way to move up!"
The Mavericks return to action on April 17 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Los Angeles, California.
