Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Women's Tennis (5-7) picked up its first win against a Summit League opponent when it beat South Dakota (4-6) 5-2 on Friday night at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.

The Mavericks only took one of three doubles matches as junior Zoe Adkins and sophomore Khayli Buckels beat Amanda De Oliveira and Sorcha Caves 6-3.

Despite the two doubles losses, the Mavericks dominated in singles, taking five of six matches.

"Great comeback from the team today," head coach Adam Summit said. "We started hot in doubles and got some leads, but South Dakota dug in to make it difficult. They played at another level when we were tied on courts two and three."

Adkins took a 6-2, 6-3 singles victory over Beata Havlickova to earn her second overall win of the day.

Buckels also took win number two on the day when she snuck past Caves 7-5, 6-4.

Freshman Nina Wiese gave De Oliveira a commanding 6-1. 6-0 defeat on court three.

Fellow freshman Katelynn Kock took a 7-5, 6-3 victory on court seven over Selena Bird.

To close out the singles winning frenzy, senior Keegan VanPelt beat Katarina Curcic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

"It's not easy losing the doubles point and winning four singles matches," Summit said. "It adds another layer of pressure. The ladies responded incredibly well and believed they could win. Quick wins by Zoe and Nina really helped put some pressure down on courts two and four. Katelynn played well, and Khayli came in clutch to beat a really good player for the clinch. Keegan got a nice win to give us that extra point."

The Mavericks are back at Miracle Hill Tennis Center on Saturday, March 8, as they take on Bradley at 2:30 p.m. CT.
