OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Women's Tennis (12-8) won its eighth straight match when it handled Marquette (3-15) 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
"[We earned] a really tough win today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "Marquette is a good tennis team and they are well coached. We started the day with some great doubles, which has been consistent during this win streak. I am proud that we have had different players in and out of the doubles lineup, and nothing has changed regarding effort or results."
The Mavericks took the doubles point for a second straight day as junior Summer Shannon and senior Keegan VanPelt beat Aiyana Abbott and Elena Duva 6-3.
Freshmen Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock had a 6-0 shutout victory over Joelle A Fiallo Schad and Luciana Mendoza.
In singles, sophomore Khayli Buckels topped Tiera Jarmond 7-5, 5-7, 7 (7)-6 (3).
Wiese had a singles win over Fiallo Schad, taking it 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Jacqueline Pearsall beat Mendoza 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
VanPelt recorded a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win on court eight over Duva.
"During singles, we got some quick first sets," Summitt added. "In most cases, this would be very beneficial and have momentum on our side. However, Marquette dug in and played well to split a lot of matches. This was a good experience for us to see and recognize moments when we could finish points, games, and sets off."
The Mavericks return to action on Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m. CT when Kansas City comes to town for senior night at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
