DENVER – Omaha Women's Tennis (4-8) suffered two tough losses in Colorado this weekend.

On Saturday, the Mavericks fell 1-6 to Air Force (5-7) and opened up Summit League play on Sunday in Denver. They lost by a score of 1-6 for the second day in a row, but this time to the Pioneers.

"Real good fight today. Denver is good, and they showed it today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "We played well enough to make matches competitive.

At Denver Tennis Park on Sunday, freshman Katelynn Kock took Omaha's only win as she defeated the Pioneers' Marley Lambert 6-4, 6-3.

"We dropped some quick first sets in singles, but the resiliency showed in some of the girls to battle back in the second," Summitt added. "We played on the road at altitude, less than 24 hours after another match. This team showed some grit, and it is time to build on it and prepare for next weekend."

In Colorado Springs, Colo., freshman Nina Wiese took the sole Mavericks' victory on Saturday as she defeated Air Force's Maya Michalski in three sets 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-3.

Summitt shared his thoughts on Saturday after the loss to Air Force.

"This was a very good battle," Summitt said. "It is always tough coming to high altitude and competing with teams that are familiar with it. However, I thought we did an excellent job of adjusting and competing hard. Every match we had was tightly contested. We were just a few points away from winning sets or even matches in some cases."

The Mavericks return to Miracle Hill Tennis Center next weekend for two matches, including the home Summit League opener when they host South Dakota on Friday, March 7, at 5 p.m. CT. They then take a break from conference play with a contest against Bradley on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
