Mavericks take down Colgate for fifth straight win

MIAMI - Omaha Women's Tennis (9-8) downed Colgate (9-7) 5-2 on Tuesday morning at Biltmore Tennis Center to win its fifth straight head-to-head match.

"The first match outdoors can always be tricky, especially in Miami," head coach Adam Summitt said. "The team did an excellent job controlling what they could, and we continue to play great doubles. It was nice to have Paula [Arcarons] back for a match."

Freshmen duo Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock took a 6-1 victory over Eliza Podlas and Carina Cristobal.

Two Maverick seniors, Arcarons and Keegan VanPelt, beat Rebecca Hess and Addie Eklund 6-0.

In singles, junior Zoe Adkins led Omaha off with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Amelia Galin.

Sophomore Khayli Buckels brought her A-game for a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Colgate's Carina Cristobal.

Wiese handled Eklund 6-0, 6-2 in the Mavericks' third-straight singles victory.

VanPelt finished the line of singles wins, beating Anya Kunar 6-2, 6-3 in the #6 spot.

"Colgate is a solid team," Summitt added. "They competed well to make us earn the win."

Omaha plays its second match in Miami when it takes on Stony Brook at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 19 at Biltmore Tennis Center.
