#4 Omaha Hockey's season comes to an end with NCHC Quarterfinal loss

OMAHA, Neb. - #4 Omaha Hockey (18-17-1, 14-9-1NCHC) suffered a 2-3 defeat in game two of the NCHC Quarterfinal Round to #5 North Dakota (21-14-2, 14-9-1 NCHC) on Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena on Saturday night.

Game two ended the same way as game one, and Omaha again outshot North Dakota (34-31). However, the Mavericks' season ended with a series loss.

Opening Faceoff to the Final Horn

  • Freshman forward Myles Hilman got the Mavericks started as he retrieved the puck in between the circles as North Dakota's T.J. Semptimphelter fell to his back and left the net open for the game-opening goal 14:49 into the first period.
  • In the second period, Omaha's scoring leader, graduate forward Sam Stange, buried a rebound off graduate defenseman and captain Nolan Krenzen's shot on a wide-open net as Omaha extended its lead 2-0.
  • Omaha's scoring night ended as forward Carter Wilkie scored on the power play to get the visitors on the board.
  • Forward Cade Littler tied the game at two a piece 29 seconds after Wilkie's goal.
  • Forward Jayden Jubenvill netted the game-winning goal for the Fighting Hawks on a transition opportunity 18:24 into the final frame.

Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy made 28 saves and faced 31 shots on net.

Notes

  • The Mavericks lost 10 games this season by one goal.
  • Stange led the Mavericks this season in goals (16), assists (18), points (36) and was tied for the lead at plus-14 in 36 games played.
  • Graduate forward Jimmy Glynn (162 GP) and Krenzen (161 GP) finish their collegiate careers with the third and fourth most games played in program history, respectively.
  • The two now make up half of the four Mavericks that have played 160 or more career games.
  • Graduate forward Brock Bremer finished his career tied for the ninth-most games played as an Omaha Maverick at 158.
