DES MOINES, Iowa - Omaha Women's Tennis (7-8) picked up its third straight victory when it beat Drake (3-7) 5-2 for its first-ever win over the Bulldogs.

"[A] really gritty effort from us," head coach Adam Summitt said. "Drake made us earn the matches, and it was much closer than the scores show."

The Mavericks won two of three doubles matches, and junior Summer Shannon and senior Keegan VanPelt won 7 (8)-6 (6) over Shiori Takeda and Jessica Popiol.

Freshmen duo Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock reached a 6-1 victory against Jyun-Yi Lee and Jana Ruzic.

"I felt we played a great doubles match and had a lot of chances to close," Summitt added. "Keegan and Summer rallied from trailing 0-4 to win."

Junior Zoe Adkins had a 6-2, 6-1 win against Drake's Elizabete Klavinska in the #1 singles contest.

Junior Khayli Buckels won in three 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 after she faced the Bulldogs' Jessica Popiol.

Wiese had her second victory of the match when she topped Tess Caldicott 6-3, 6-1.

Finally, in the #6 singles, junior Jacqueline Pearsall beat Lee 7 (7)-6 (5), 6-4.

"[In] singles, we kept it up. Zoe and Nina were very efficient today," Summitt said. "Jacqueline came in clutch and closed it out with some great play. Proud of their effort and resiliency tonight."

Omaha will attempt to win its fourth straight match when it travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to face Northern Iowa at 4 p.m. CT at Black Hawk Tennis Club.
