LAWRENCE, Kan. - Omaha softball (18-4) is set for a road doubleheader at Kansas Thursday with game one scheduled for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch, followed by the nightcap at approximately 6:30 p.m. CT. Both games will stream live on ESPN+.
Omaha enters the week after sweeping the Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer honors after a 4-0 stint in Conway, Ark. last week.
Maddia Groff was named the Summit League's Peak Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after picking up two wins over Central Arkansas to move to 9-2 on the young campaign. Groff fanned nine batters in each victory, moving past the century mark with a league-best 102 punchouts on the campaign. In first win of the weekend, the Omaha native tossed her fifth complete game of the season, allowing only one earned run on two hits.
Sydney Thomason was named the league's Peak Performer of the Week after three home runs in four games, with nine runs scored and nine RBI. Thomason scored a career-high four runs in Omaha;s 12-4 victory over Illinois State and batted .538 (7-for-13) over the 4-0 weekend for the Mavericks. At the plate, Thomason registered a trio of multi-hit games and totaled five extra-base hits, including the trio of round-trippers. This is Thomason's first career weekly accolade.
The Jayhawks were tabbed to finish ninth out of 11 Big 12 softball programs in the conference's preseason poll and currently sit 12-9 overall and 0-1 after the lone home game against Wichita State yesterday. Omaha is 2-1 in 2025 against power opponents, including 1-1 against Big Ten members and 1-0 against ACC schools (Pitt).
Omaha's two-game set is the club's final tune-up before the start of Summit League action which begins on Saturday, March 22 with a doubleheader against St. Thomas at
Connie Claussen Field beginning at 1 p.m. CT. The series concludes on Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. All three games will air on the Summit League Network powered by Midco Sports Plus.
The Mavericks host Nebraska in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. CT.
