OMAHA, Neb. – (RV) Omaha Hockey (17-14-1, 13-8-1 NCHC) took a 4-2 victory against No. 12 Arizona State (19-13-2, 14-9-1 NCHC) on Saturday night in the regular season home finale of 2024-25 on senior night on Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena in front of a crowd of 7,802 fans wearing white.
The Mavericks and Colorado College are the only NCHC teams to beat the Sun Devils in regulation this season.
Freshman goaltender
Kevin Reidler made 40 saves and faced 42 total shots to earn his fourth collegiate victory.
The game's first 40 minutes followed a similar blueprint as Friday's contest.
The key difference in the two games was that Omaha potted the game's first goal.
Junior defenseman
Jacob Guevin took the puck away from a cloud of Arizona State traffic.
The Drummondville, Quebec native centered himself, skated towards the net in the Sun Devils' zone, and gave it off to his left to junior forward Cam Mitchell, who had freed himself past two defenders.
Omaha's junior forward shifted only a few inches and connected with graduate forward
Sam Stange, who buried it to take a 1-0 lead.
Forward Ryan Kirwan netted the following two goals on the power play for Arizona State at 15:34 into the first period and 5:22 into the second period.
Omaha was trailing 2-1 heading into the third period for the second consecutive evening.
Freshman defenseman
Marcus Broberg dumped a puck into the Sun Devils' zone in the third period and chased it down in maybe the best puck pursuit of the game.
Broberg chased it down, took possession back, and quickly found senior forward
Zach Urdahl.
The lone Maverick senior then tried to put the puck on the net. Still, it hit a leg that turned into a lucky bounce that graduate student
Jimmy Glynn pushed through in his 158th collegiate game to tie the game in his final evening of regular season hockey at Baxter Arena.
Less than a minute after the game-tying goal at 7:10 in the third period, Mitchell gave the puck to the captain and graduate defenseman
Nolan Krenzen, who raced up the ice with fellow defenseman and junior
Griffin Ludtke tagged along.
Krenzen ripped a shot that deflected off goaltender Gibson Homer's pad but landed in the perfect spot for Ludtke to bury the rebound and give Omaha a 3-2 lead.
Arizona State scored a goal with just over a minute left in regulation, but the Mavericks challenged the call for a high stick and ultimately had it overturned.
Omaha's 3-2 lead was held and extended when graduate forward
Brady Risk took a deflected puck off his body and hit the empty netter to make it 4-2 with seven seconds remaining.
The Mavericks travel to Grand Forks, N.D., for two games against No. 18 North Dakota next week to close the regular season. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. CT on Friday, March 7 and 6:07 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 8.
