OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Women's Tennis (2-4) dropped its first match at home this season, 3-4, when it faced Idaho (3-2) at Miracle Hills Tennis Center on Friday evening.
"Tough loss today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "We came down to the doubles point, and we had opportunities but did not take it. Credit to Idaho for competing and making it challenging. They played big when it was needed."
Despite a match loss, the Mavericks had a productive day, taking three of the six meetings in singles.
Junior Zoe Adkins beat Annabel Davis 7-5, 6-3 in the number one singles matchup.
Sophomore Khayli Buckels also had a strong showing in number three singles, winning 7 (7)-6, 6 (0)-3 over Hanna Koprowska.
Omaha's final singles victory of the day came courtesy of freshman Nina Wiese, who handled Idaho's Lena Beckx 6-3, 6-3.
The Mavericks' effort came close, but ultimately, it was not enough to add a win to their record.
"We have to compete better for the entire match and not just in moments," Summitt added.
Omaha will stay in state for its next matches. It will face Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. CT and Saint Louis on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. CT at Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
