CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Omaha softball (4-1, 0-0 Summit League) fell to Northern Iowa 4-1 Saturday, the first setback of the campaign for Omaha after a 4-0 start to the 2025 season.
Omaha opened the scoring in the fourth inning with an RBI single off the bat of freshman infielder
Alyson Edwards. The home Panthers answered back with a three-run inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Mavericks.
UNI's added an insurance run in the fifth frame following a home run by Addison McElrath, extending the lead to 4-1.
Sydney Thomason and Edwards led Omaha with two hits a piece while
Maddia Groff pitched six innings for Omaha allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Groff struckout seven to close the opening weekend of the season.
The Mavericks return to action in Florida on Friday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. CT against Big Ten member Wisconsin as part of the FGCU Invitational in Fort Meyers, Fla.
