Feb 8, 2025

Ames, Iowa - The Omaha track and field team delivered another strong performance on Saturday at the Iowa State Classic, with Tania Gleason leading the way by winning the 200-meter dash.

The Mavericks have shown steady improvement each week and are hitting their stride at the perfect time as the final meets approach.

"A very strong step forward today here at ISU. The ladies looked confident and composed and that translated to great performances and new opportunities as Tania (Gleason) and Grace (Mustard) both moved on to Finals in their respective events," head coach Cliff Cisar said. "And Tania to cap off the day with an event win was a cherry on top as we head into the last two regular season meets. Incredibly proud of the continued growth we've shown this year!"

The 200-meter dash was a success from many different Mavericks on Saturday as there were six different personal records in this event. Gleason led the way finishing in first place with a time of 24.71 seconds, her fastest time of the year.

Other Mavericks who set indoor personal records in the 200-meter dash included Ava Robinson (25.49), Macy Persinger (25.81), Regan Barnard (26.01), Ashley Ostrand (26.13), and Jocelynn Skoda (26.18).

Several Mavericks delivered strong performances in the 60-meter dash.

Gleason led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 600-meter dash running a time of 7.68 seconds, the seventh fastest time in program history.

Avyn Urbanski finished close behind in the 60-meter dash, placing 10th and tying her personal best with a time of 7.79 seconds.

In the 60-meter hurdles Grace Mustard made the finals and finished in eighth place with a time of 9.07 seconds.

The sprinters weren't the only ones who shined on Saturday, the long-distance runners also delivered strong performances.

"Overall, it was a fantastic day with strong performances and excellent race executions," said assistant coach Saskia Pingpank. "We saw noticeable growth in confidence, particularly in attacking the final stretch and trusting ourselves throughout the races. Emma's (Hain) race management and determination in the final laps were especially impressive, alongside many personal records in the mid and distance events, we are thrilled for what's ahead!"

Kamryn Ensley led the way in the 3000-meter run, clocking a season-best time of 10:00.80 to secure 11th place overall.

Three more Mavericks achieved personal records in the 3000-meter run. Emma Hain posted a time of 10:34.57, Carrington Hessen finished in 10:44.68, and Sydney Beaudin finished in 10:48.31.

In the field events, Julia Niemeyer secured a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.26 meters (17'-3.25").

The Omaha track and field team returns to action on February 14-15 at the SDSU Indoor Classic, held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota.
