Softball commences 2025 campaign at UNI-Dome Tournament

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Omaha softball commences the 2025 season Friday as the Mavericks take part in the five-game, three-day UNI-Dome Tournament hosted by Northern Iowa. Omaha's lid-lifter pits the Mavericks against Loyola Chicago at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 7.

Omaha then plays the host Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by Loyola Chicago and Drake on Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. CT and 11:30 a.m. CT, respectively. The Mavericks close-out the event taking on Northern Iowa at 3 p.m. CT.

The Mavericks are 10-1 in this event over the past two seasons. Newcomer sophomore pitcher Maddia Groff is expected to make her Mavericks debut Friday.

Mike Heard, now in his fourth season leading the Mavericks, returns two of his top four offensive producers in senior shortstop Maggie O'Brien and senior infielder Sydney Thomason.

Following the UNI-Dome Tournament, the Mavericks, selected first in the 2025 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, head to the Sunshine State for the FGCU Invitational, starting off with Big Ten member Wisconsin on Friday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. CT.
