Brookings, South Dakota - Tania Gleason led the Omaha track and field team on day one of the Summit League Championships, setting multiple personal records and earning a spot in the finals for both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.
There were multiple Mavericks who set personal records and season bests today.
"Every conference meet has incredible highs and incredible lows," said head coach Cliff Cisar. "It's important to work together as a group as you navigate those challenges and work through the adversity together. Today we saw teammates step up and be incredible teammates and saw athletes come in and just compete to their fullest!"
In the 60-meter dash, both Tania Gleason and Ashley Ostrand set personal records. Gleason secured eighth place with a time of 7.61 seconds, while Ostrand clocked in at 7.96 seconds.
Gleason also led the team in the 200-meter dash, setting a personal record of 24.51 seconds. Her performance earned her fourth place and marked the sixth-fastest time in program history.
"Tania Gleason had a day that will put her in the finals in both sprint events," said Cisar. "She has worked so hard for those opportunities, and she will be excited to get on the line tomorrow!"
Three Mavericks also set personal records in the 200-meter dash. Avyn Urbanski clocked a time of 25.20 seconds, the 10th-fastest time in program history. Regan Barnard finished in 25.52 seconds and Ostrand finished close behind in 26.05 seconds.
The distance medley relay team of Lily Schwartz, Ava Robinson, Meredith Richter, and Maya Bergstrom secured sixth place with a time of 12:21.80, marking the 10th-fastest time in program history.
"Ending the day with the 10th-fastest time in program history in the DMR is a testament to our groups hard work," said Cisar. "They didn't know the relay team officially until about 2 hours before and each of them stepped up big time and ran some incredible splits!"
Jocelynn Skoda ran her second-fastest time of the year in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.50 seconds.
In the 800-meter dash prelims, Richter placed ninth overall with a time of 2:13.36, recording the 10th-fastest time in program history.
Lilly Smith was the only Maverick to compete in the pentathlon, setting personal records in the long jump (4.65 meters) and the 800-meter dash (2:32.31).
The Mavericks will be back tomorrow, March 1, for day two of the Summit League Championships, held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
