Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Women's Tennis (4-6) cruised to a 5-2 victory to beat its crosstown rival Creighton (6-4) for the first time in program history on Sunday at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
"Just an unbelievable effort today," head coach Adam Summitt said. "We came ready to play and win. First win in program history over Creighton. We have always been close with them. A really good feeling, one that we have not had."
The Mavericks won two of the three doubles matches played. In singles, Omaha took four of the six contests played.
Freshmen duo Katelynn Kock and Nina Wiese had a 6-1 victory to help Omaha take the doubles point.
Kock also performed well in singles, with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory.
Junior Zoe Adkins played a pivotal role in the victory. She won the No. 1 singles match (7-5), 6-4, and also won a double match with senior Paula Arcarons.
Arcarons also won the singles match, taking the matchup 6-2, 6-0.
Similarly, sophomore Khayli Buckels won her singles match 6-2, 6-0 and the Mavericks had a comfortable path to victory.
"We played some aggressive doubles and really went for it," Summitt added. "In singles, we kept our foot on the gas pedal and did not let up. Zoe [Adkins], Katelynn [Kock], Khayli [Buckels] and Paula [Arcarons] came up absolutely clutch. We will savor this for two days and return to work on Tuesday."
Omaha travels to Colorado next week and faces off against Air Force on Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. CT in Colorado Springs, Colo. On Sunday, March 2, the Mavericks make their way to Denver for a Summit League matchup with Denver at 11 a.m. CT.
