KALAMAZOO, Mich. – No. 20 Omaha Hockey (16-13-1, 12-7-1 NCHC) suffered a 1-6 defeat in the finale of two games against No. 3 Western Michigan (22-5-1, 15-2-1 NCHC) at Lawson Arena on Saturday night.
Graduate forward
Sam Stange scored Omaha's only goal on a beautiful feed from senior forward
Zach Urdahl 17:33 into the second period. Stange extends his point streak to four games and has tallied six points (1G-5A) throughout.
This broke a seven-game streak of the Mavericks netting the contest's inaugural goal.
Western Michigan forward Zach Nehring scored the game's first goal 14:31 into the first period and then the Broncos potted another before the end of the opening frame.
The Broncos netted three goals in the second period.
Defenseman Zach Sharp scored for Western Michigan in the third period which was the final frame's only goal.
Junior goaltender
Simon Latkoczy started the game and made 17 saves, but gave up four goals. Freshman goaltender
Kevin Reidler was substituted into the game for Latkoczy during the second period.
The Mavericks will be off next weekend. Omaha returns to action when it hosts No. 10 Arizona State for the regular season home finale in a two-game series on Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1. Both games begin at 7:07 p.m. CT.
